Seven views of a Zenith Transoceanic TO-1000

Top view.  Note the handle.  It flips up to become the antenna. The band select switch is on the right side of the case.

Here the handle is vertical.  The whip antenna is only slightly extended.

The front door has been flipped down to expose the controls.  There is a time-zone map in the inside of the front door.  Also, the front door has a pocket that holds a spiral-bound log book.

A front view of the open TO-1000.  The large knob is for tuning.  The cluster on the lower left has two knobs (on/off-volume and tone) a momentary slide switch to light up the slide-rule dial, and a miniature earphone jack.  The bandswitch is easy to see in this photo.  It folds flush with the side of the case when not in use.

Another shot of the open TO.  The pocket for the log book is easier to view from this angle.  The time-zone conversion chart on the inside of the front cover has a rotating dial to calculate times based on time zones.

Rear of TO-1000.  The word "ZENITH" is a remote "Wavemagnet" antenna with suction cups.  The red twin lead wire has a plug on the end.  When riding in a train, the user can stick the remote antenna on the train window for better reception of the AM broadcast band.  The battery box is shown below the red wire.   Nine type "D" batteries are used.

The inside rear cover of this radio still has the inspection card held by tape.   An ownership stick on the right was never filled out with the owner's name and address.  The white tag in the middle shows the transistor placement.   Transistors are in sockets.
